Lacrosse is one of the fastest growing sports in the United States, as well as Canada's official national summer sport. Lacrosse sees a game played by 6-12 players in which a hard rubber ball is caught and passed through a netted stick (“the crosse”). The aim of the game is to score points for each ball that is thrown into the goal. The sport is usually played on grassy fields, and has a few different player roles: attack men, midfielders, defenders and a goaltender. Lacrosse can occasionally be a dangerous game, so protective equipment is strongly encouraged. Players, particularly, the goaltender, wear protection on their shoulders, arms and hands. The lacrosse helmet is the most important piece of equipment and protects a player's head as well as their eyes.
Lacrosse Helmet Types There are a few different types of lacrosse helmets to choose from. In terms of size, there are youth lacrosse helmets which are designed for younger players. A youth lacrosse helmet can be bought in a definitive size or could also be a line of custom lacrosse helmets. There is also an adjustable lacrosse helmet, which adjusts at the turn of a wrist for added safety and comfort. Lacrosse helmet visors are sometimes included along with the purchase of a lacrosse helmet, though they are discouraged for actual game play. Players report that they scratch easily and block the view of action. They are usually not allowed in amateur or professional game play, at the request of referees who may need to quickly check a player's eyes. Lacrosse Helmet Companies In shopping for lacrosse helmet companies there are a few big names to take note of.
